Workers' Strikes versus Immigration Struggles: A Debate among Historians

Since the 1970 factory strikes were mainly conducted by foreign workers, they are identified today as “immigrants' strikes”, as the starting point of an “immigrants' movement”. The study of the 1973 strike in Renault-Billancourt based on workers' statements shows that these workers consider the category “immigrant” inappropriate: these strikes are first of all part of a story of workers' struggles.
