The Memory of New Towns

The management of new towns during the “militant” period (1965-1975) refers to the so-called “mission town planning” whose singular practices and experiences differ from those used in traditionnal town planning. On this account the choice of careers and the practices of civil servants originating from French Black African territories (1945-1960) reveal some features of what can be defined as forms of a mission culture in the field of town planning.
