“Caillera”/“Chacha”: Jargon and Youth Groups in a Hauts-de-Seine High School

Varia/From Urban to Rural

Based on an ethnographic study carried out among students of a secondary school in the southern suburb of Paris this article describes the practices and social representations of some of these « housing estates’ school students ». It shows what the secondary school represents to them and what their daily life looks like there. The school is more than a useful institution to get a diploma and seems to be first of all a place where young people can live a life similar to their own in a housing estate.
