This article studies the cultural activities organized by the Philotians’ Association in its place of origin. This local association is based in Athens, like many others, and is composed of people native of the village of Philoti (Naxos island). The study focusses on the Association’s annual Great Ball and closing « Serenade ». The author shows both the cultural and political dynamism conveyed by these events and the confrontation between the homogenising discourse of the Association and local practices and discourses of ideality.
