The closure of the textile factories in the 1970s in Bertry, a small town located south of the Nord department, contributed to the oblivion of the town textile activities for some twenty years. After their refusal to take part in an ethnographic survey on textile creation in 1998 the professionals of this sector engaged in a reconquest of their professional legitimacy and a revaluation of their social identity and built themselves a proud consciousness of their past activities.
