Few ethnologists have used until now the photo-interview such as formalized by John Collier as early as 1967. Tested to study the religious practices of the Japanese community of Toulouse this method proved to be very fruitful in that it enabled the ethnologist to collect Japanese immigrants? interpretations of and reactions to the photographs he showed them. The collected data were then analyzed and permitted to decipher the systems of representation of this population.
