To see artists “keep shop” is to see Paris transformed, drawn, built, and put on stage. A study of artists’ workshops rests on an ethnographic survey conducted between 2003 and 2007 in the Parisian neighborhood of Belleville. For the artists of Belleville, exhibiting in their neighborhood does not have the same meaning as exhibiting elsewhere in the capital. From the viewpoint of artists’ shops of Belleville, we can analyze and understand urban identities and spatial representations of Paris.
