The Israelization of Ethiopian Immigrants as Welfare Clients

This paper shows that immigrating Ethiopians were cornered into the category of “needy” welfare clients by the “absorbing” agencies who justified their social control in the name of “professional help” for the immigrants’ integration into Israeli society. The welfare workers relegated the immigrants into a category of needy people by mainly targeting female immigrants and their role of “mother” in particular.
