Independent local shopkeepers of the Parisian east. An opportunity for gentrificators

Along with the recent gentrification of the area, new independent shopkeepers have settled in the east of Paris. Before their professional move, most of them had graduated or belonged to the upper middle classes. This paper shows that far from feeling downgraded, they experience a new mode of appropriation of the city and can maintain their social status and past way of life. Their presence reinforces the gentrification process of the area.
