Albanian folkloristics and ethnography (Albania and Kosovo 1945-1991)

Different paths but a similar approach
By Rigels Halili

The article outlines the development of folklore studies and ethnography in Albania and Kosovo from 1945 up to 1991. This period corresponds with the existence of Communist regimes in Albania and Yugoslavia, of which Kosovo was then a part. The article reveals that the driving force behind the development of ethnography and folkloristics in both cases was not so much Communist ideology, but was in fact the national ideas that had been shaped during the period of formation of the Albanian nation in the nineteenth century.
