Communism as a Research Topic in Contemporary Albanian Ethnology: A “Native” Perspective

The present article critically assesses the role of communism as a research topic in contemporary Albanian ethnology. Research related to “communism” is relatively new in Albanian social science and the humanities. The first purpose of this article is to explain why communism only recently emerged as a research field among Albanian social scientists, particularly ethnologists. A second purpose is to describe how Albanian ethnologists and anthropologists are problematizing the country’s communist and expanding the traditional boundaries of the discipline.
