A reflexive look at ethnographical studies of death customs in Albania

The purpose of this article is to review several key texts on Albanian funeral customs, examining the collected data, research topics, insights and problems that are presented within them. The discussion will be focused on traditional apprehensions of death, belief in post mortem spiritual beings, coping mechanisms of bereavement, and ceremonial forms of ritual funeral crying, all in their historical context.
