“Their job is to take care of my father.” Care managers, domestic work, and caring for elderly people

By Maria Offenhenden, Yolanda Bodoque-Puerta
English

Based on ethnographic research data, we analyze the employer-worker relationship in paid domestic work caring for the elderly. We will consider how the employer-worker relationship is experienced on a daily basis. Focusing on the employers’ perspective, the aim of this paper is to identify who the employers are, as well as their expectations and experiences. We will also explore whether there is a specific demand for migrant domestic workers. Such analysis intertwines welfare, aging, family, gender, national origin, globalization, and migration regimes.
