Narrations Collected in a Socialist Village. Norms and Realities of Everyday Work

By Doroteya Dobreva
English

On the basis of narrations collected in a Bulgarian mountain village from 1993 to 1998 the author analyses social, political and cultural changes posterior to 1994, such as they were experienced by the villagers. She concentrates more especially on the contradiction existing between the official norm of a collective and conscientious work aiming at the welfare of the society and the real behaviour of peasants who are mainly concerned with individual and familial values.
