Children in Their Summer Towns

By Martin de La Soudière
English

This ethnographic study of the life of children and teen-agers in a very big campsite on the coast of Languedoc shows that while these young people invest there a wide playground, they unconsciously submit to time constraints, etc. and finally spend their time on the campsite quite wisely. Laying emphasis on conformist practices that are paradoxically induced by the camping institution counterbalances some too univocal and irenic analyses of the phenomenon.
