The ethnography of the Guadelupian Carnival clearly shows processes of reinterpretation and creolization, namely within the “Voukoum” group who intends to stage a peculiar element of the cultural patrimony: masks. In an anti-establishment strategy of identity the protagonists aim at reinventing a local history around heroic figures of the resistance.
