Women Contemplators of the Invisible

Voices, Visions, Apparitions

English

The impassioned relationships that some mystic catholic women experienced with Jesus in the second millennium can be regarded as encounters with mythical beings, namely within the framework of a reinterpreted shamanism. The process of “supernaturalization” of celestial partners is observed and controlled by an institution that may or may not guarantee their reality. In view of such guarantee, do these contemplators of the invisible perceive “objects,” or do they hallucinate and perceive their presence through the reactivation of a myth? The social impact of these visionary prophetesses’ testimonies is often correlated with political conjectures.
