Afro hair and “the natural hair movement”: a reappropriated gesture?

The Afro “natural hair movement” emerged on the internet between the mid-2000s and early 2010s, primarily through social media. Through the case study of eight women who were instigators or observers of this movement, the article highlights the rules of establishing actions and discourse aimed at reevaluating what has long been astigmatized hair texture. Enmeshed in a network of commercial exchanges, the knowledge and skills associated with Afro hair are increasingly the subject of disputes, especially in relation to their significance.
