Nostalgia for borders and the formation of a “heritage of crossing”. Negotiations and ordinary adaptations at the Franco-Belgian border

Popular practices to reinforce the built and stationary border have been observed on the ground at the Franco-Belgian border. To understand them, we analyse the processes of emic construction of a “border crossing heritage” in which nostalgia for social relationships nurtured at the border posts and with the actors involved in the regulation of the crossings seems crucial. By this means, we seek to describe the way in which artefacts and figures associated with the border nourish processes of pooling between actors living in these territories.
