In contrast to studies focused on diaspora entrepreneurs, this article takes a “bottom-up” approach, examining the ways in which the engagement of Ukrainian women exiles in France is embedded in their daily lives. Using mixed methods—interviews, observations, and a questionnaire-based survey—the study shows that while exiled women are highly politicized, the numerous material constraints they face on a daily basis keep them relatively distant from formal diaspora organizations.
