Spaces created by exile: Russian migrants in Tbilisi, 2022–2024

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, many Russian migrants have relocated to Tbilisi in Georgia, establishing community hubs and “third places” to rebuild their networks and identities in exile. These spaces facilitate social and professional engagement while reinforcing community ties. However, their practices are marked by internal tensions and ambiguous perceptions from Georgian society. This study examines socialization dynamics, intercommunity disputes, and the visibility of these spaces within the local political and social context.
